FASTag Annual Pass 2026: Price, Benefits and How to Activate Online
The FASTag Annual Pass is the simplest money saver NHAI has ever offered frequent highway drivers: one payment, up to 200 toll crossings, valid for a full year. If you cross national highway toll plazas even a few times a month, the pass can cut your toll spending sharply compared to paying per crossing. But it only works on national highways, only for private vehicles, and only if you activate it correctly.
This guide covers the current price for 2026-27, exactly what the pass covers and what it does not, the savings math, and the step-by-step activation on the Rajmarg Yatra app.
What Is the FASTag Annual Pass?
The FASTag Annual Pass is an optional yearly plan linked to your existing FASTag. Instead of deducting the toll fee from your FASTag wallet at every plaza, the pass covers up to 200 toll plaza crossings at participating plazas for one year from activation, whichever comes first.
The scheme was launched on August 15, 2025, and adoption has been rapid. NHAI has reported that the pass crossed one crore sales within about a year of launch, and the user base had already crossed 56 lakh before that milestone. The pass is activated on the FASTag already fixed to your vehicle. You do not get a new tag, and you do not need any new hardware.
FASTag Annual Pass Price in 2026
For the financial year 2026-27, the FASTag Annual Pass costs Rs 3,075. The price was revised from Rs 3,000 with effect from April 1, 2026, under the National Highways Fee Rules, 2008.
Key details: Price (FY 2026-27): Rs 3,075 one-time. Validity: 1 year from activation, or 200 crossings, whichever comes first. Plazas covered: about 1,150 fee plazas on National Highways and National Expressways. Eligible vehicles: private non-commercial vehicles with a valid FASTag. Activation: Rajmarg Yatra app or NHAI website, active within about two hours of payment. Renewal: can be activated again after expiry or after 200 crossings.
A point that catches people out: the Rs 3,075 fee cannot be paid from your FASTag wallet balance. You pay it separately through the app or website, and the pass is then linked to your tag.
Who Can Buy the FASTag Annual Pass?
Eligibility is narrow, and this is where most confusion happens: Private non-commercial vehicles only. Cars, jeeps, and vans used privately are eligible. Commercial vehicles are not. A valid FASTag is required. The tag must be properly affixed to the windshield, linked to a valid vehicle registration number (not a chassis number alone), and not blacklisted. One pass per vehicle. The pass is non-transferable. It cannot be moved to another vehicle or shared between two cars. Using it on a commercial vehicle leads to immediate deactivation. Do not try to use a private-vehicle pass on a taxi, goods vehicle, or any commercial registration.
If your FASTag is blacklisted, perhaps because of a low balance, a KYC issue, or a wallet problem, fix that first. A blacklisted tag cannot carry the pass.
What the Pass Covers (and What It Does Not)
The pass works at around 1,150 fee plazas on National Highways and National Expressways. That is a large network, but it is not every toll road in India.
Covered: NHAI-managed national highway and national expressway plazas. At these plazas, your crossings are deducted from the pass instead of your wallet.
Not covered: state highway plazas, state-managed expressways, and local-body toll points. At those plazas, your FASTag works as a regular tag and the normal toll is deducted from your wallet. Crossings at these plazas are not counted against the pass.
Counting rule: at point-based plazas, a to-and-fro trip counts as two crossings. At closed tolling plazas, one entry and exit pair counts as one crossing. If a local or monthly pass is already active at a plaza, crossings there are not deducted from the Annual Pass.
This is why the pass is a great deal for one driver and a poor deal for another. If your regular routes are national highways, it pays for itself quickly. If your daily route uses a state expressway, it may barely get used.
The Savings Math: Is It Worth Rs 3,075?
The arithmetic is straightforward. Rs 3,075 divided by 200 crossings works out to about Rs 15.38 per crossing. Compare that with the regular toll for a car at most national highway plazas, which is typically in the range of Rs 50 to Rs 150 per crossing depending on the stretch. These figures are an illustration, not a promise for any specific plaza, because toll rates vary by plaza and are revised from time to time.
A simple way to decide: Daily highway commuter: if you cross a plaza twice a day on working days, you will use up 200 crossings in about four to five months. At typical per-crossing tolls, you recover the Rs 3,075 many times over within the year. Weekly highway traveller: one return trip a week is about 8 crossings a month, or roughly 96 in a year. At typical tolls, that still usually beats the pass price, but check your own plaza rates first. Occasional traveller: two or three highway trips a year will not use the pass enough. Stick with the regular FASTag wallet.
Also remember that the pass reverts to a regular FASTag once 200 crossings or one year are done. You can activate it again, at the then-current price, if it still suits you.
How to Activate the FASTag Annual Pass Online
Activation takes a few minutes in the Rajmarg Yatra app. The pass typically becomes active within about two hours of payment. 1. Download and open the Rajmarg Yatra app on your phone, and log in with the mobile number linked to your FASTag or vehicle. 2. Find the FASTag Annual Pass option on the home screen or in the FASTag section. 3. Enter your vehicle registration number. The app shows the FASTag linked to that vehicle. 4. Confirm eligibility. The app checks that the vehicle is a private non-commercial vehicle with a valid, active FASTag. 5. Pay Rs 3,075 through the available payment options. Remember, this fee is paid separately, not from your FASTag wallet balance. 6. Wait for the confirmation. The pass becomes active on your existing FASTag within about two hours. You will get a confirmation in the app. 7. Verify before your next trip. Open the app and check that the Annual Pass shows as active, with the validity period and remaining crossings visible.
If the pass does not show as active after a few hours, check that the payment went through, confirm the tag is not blacklisted, and contact NHAI support through the app or helpline rather than paying a second time.

Common Problems and Fixes
Pass shows inactive after payment. Wait the full two-hour activation window first. If it is still inactive, check the payment status in the app. A failed payment that was debited will normally be reversed by your bank, but do not pay again until you confirm the first payment did not go through.
Crossings deducted at a plaza you expected to be free. Check whether that plaza is a state-managed or local-body plaza. The pass only works at national highway and national expressway plazas. Your FASTag wallet was correctly charged at other plazas.
Pass used up faster than expected. Remember that a to-and-fro trip at a point-based plaza counts as two crossings. Track your remaining crossings in the app so you are not surprised.
Tag blacklisted mid-year. A blacklisted tag cannot use the pass. Fix the underlying issue, usually a wallet or KYC problem, with your issuing bank, then confirm the pass status in the app.
FASTag Annual Pass vs Monthly and Local Passes
If you use one particular plaza every day, a local or monthly pass for that plaza may be cheaper than the Annual Pass. Local residents within about 20 km of a plaza can get a monthly pass at a per-plaza fee, around Rs 350 per month in FY 2026-27, issued at the toll plaza, at acquirer bank POS locations, or online through the IHMCL website. No new tag is needed for these passes either.
The right choice depends on your pattern: one fixed plaza every day points to a local pass, while varied highway travel across many plazas points to the Annual Pass.
